Easter trip Day 12 - Munich, Germany

The city of Munich gives a very strong German feel. Almost all the signs and menus are in German, some even without translation.

We went for the free tour conducted by Sandemans. It was a great tour and we got to see most of the major monuments in the city. Towards the last few stops we actually got separated from the rest of the group cuz we were talking among ourselves and did not pay attention to where the group has gone. We felt so bad because the tour was conducted on a tipping basis and the tour guide was really nice, we didn't want her to think that we're trying to leech on a free tour and slip off towards the end without tipping her.

We are not Chao Ah Tiongs man!
Fortunately, we ran into her on the streets again coincidentally that evening and passed her the tips.

We went to the Englischer Garten, which is one of the largest and Munich's favourite park. The scenery was beautiful with large patches of greens and ducks wading in the pond. We climbed up to the Chinese tower and the view was breathtaking. We could have stayed on longer if not for the strong, cold winds.

German Wurtz, pork knuckles, saukraut, weisbier!!!

How can we claim to have visited Germany without eating all these local delicacies! I love their sausages super lots! And it was beer for lunch, beer for dinner... Had never drank beer so often in Sg but german beer is really nice and cheap!

Easter trip Day 11 - Munich, Germany

Hello Munich!!!

We had a good night's sleep last night on the train. It was comfy and a very special experience.

We arrived at 7am and checked into Jaeger's hostel which is less than 5 min's walk away from train station, very convenient! We had this spacious 4-men room with a nice ensuite bathroom and this already made my day!

No time to lose, we fully utilized our Eurail pass for the day and visited Füssen, a little town located at the foot of the Bavarian Alps 90mins away from Munich. The main attraction is the fairytale-like castle SchloB Neuscheanstein which inspired Disney Cinderella's Castle and SchloB Hohenschwan where King Ludwig II spend his summers. Both castles built by the mad King Ludwig II are spectacular and beautiful but apparently doesn't seem to serve any fortification purposes.

We spent about an hour plus in the castle with a guided tour. The castle just feels too grand to be true. I'm not really satisfied with the amount of area opened to public though, it's just such a small area. No doubt the structure of the castle is spectacular, but I still think that Warwick and Edinburgh castle offer a more realistic picture of the actual castle life in the ancient years.

Easter trip - Amsterdam to Munich

I'm typing this entry as I'm lying on the couchette of the sleeper train. We've left Netherlands this evening and is now taking the overnight train on our way to Munich! In fact, we're already on the grounds of Germany!

This is the first time I'm sleeping on the train, as in lying down with mattress, pillow and blanket, and it's really an unforgettable experience. We bought burgers and pizza for dinner and had it here on the train

Justin and I went to brush teeth and wash up just now but we didn't close the cubicle door since the train was rather empty tonight. But we were brushing halfway when the train pulled into one of the stations and it really surprised us when we turn around to see many people at the platform waiting to board the train! So they could actually see what we were doing from the transparent window of the train. My messy hair and toothbrush in my mouth! What an epic experience! Lol!

It's feels so good to see that we're on the move as I look outside the window while lying down on the bed. Shall catch some sleep before we reach Munich in 5 hours' time! =D

Good night world & keep safe my loved ones!

Easter trip Day 8,9&10 - Amsterdam, Netherlands

We stayed on a houseboat in Amsterdam for 3 days and 3 nights. There wasnt wifi on board though so I couldnt really update my blog and stuffs.

It was a novel and memorable experience bunking in a boat on the sea. Although the cabin was rather tiny, it was quite comfy and the wash basin in the room made things more convenient too!

The moment I reached the houseboat I felt at home and without fear like how I occasionally feel weird about some accomodation ...as in feel eerie about the place etc. But not with the houseboat. Daily breakfast was included in the accomodation and it was not bad at all!!! There were cereals, toast, ham, cheese, milk, different fruit juices, coffee and tea. We all love starting off the day with it's breakfast.

Amsterdam was our first stop in Europe and I actually experienced quite abit of cultural shock! Probably due to the nature of the city's culture itself.
As mentioned, Amsterdam was a city full of sex and drugs.

Soft drugs like marijuana, hash, weed are legalized so everywhere u go, it's common to see COFFEESHOP selling space cake (muffin/brownie containing small doses of drug), cannabis lollipop or special coffee.

I guess this was what GF tried to warn me about before but it's actually not that scary. Instead of being doped with drugs unknowingly in the food/drinks, people actually pay to consume such stuffs and they're actually not cheap. Their so-called "coffeeshop" are shops "licensed" to sell soft drugs, they do not refer to cafe like starbucks.

We actually tried the space brownie which was at 5 Euro each for just a small piece but I think the dosage was just too minor to feel the effects of the drug.

Amsterdam is also well-known for its VIBRANT red district scene. Just google it on the iternwt and you might probably get to see those famous girl-in-window pictures.

From the free city tour conducted by Sandemans, we got to know that the prostitutes actually work by renting the window/room at variable prices per day depending on the location where they do their business. We actually saw all kinda of girls. From young sexy and pretty ones to the big-sized black mamas which was totally disastrous to my guy pals lol!

On almost every street within the city centre, be it the red light district or not, you will see sex shops or live shows theatre. Such open sex culture in the city really shocked and even frightened me at the beginning! I'm just wondering... How do Amsterdam kids grow up healthily in such environment full of sex and drugs.

Nevertheless, the city was a real eye opener. I really enjoyed the scenery with the interesting lean buildings on both sides of the canal running through the city and also friendly people who didn't turn out to be as mean and dangerous as I previously thought.

And of cuz! We had to visit the WINDMILLS! We're in holland!!!

On the second day of our stay, we took a train ride to the nice peaceful windmill village of Zanns Schanns and saw many beautiful windmills! The wind was so strong and it was irritating when you have messy hair in your photos though. Haha!

The guys weren't interested in the Anne frank house so I went alone and visited. It was quite an experience seeing the actual secret annex which The Frank family hid in away from the Nazi during the anti-Jewish period. I just can't help feeling sad upon seeing their living condition and abstracts from her diary. I want to read her book when I get back to singapore.

Easter trip Day 8,9 &10 - Amsterdam, Netherlands

Amsterdam here we come!!!

Packed our stuffs at justin's place last night (or rather just now) till 2.30am cuz we had to do our laundry after one week of travelling in Uk. I was also troubled over what kind of clothes to bring for the holiday since I'm not sure of the weather now. It's so troublesome to bring thick clothings yet they are essential for the strong windy cold weathers.

We woke up at 4.30am so essentially I had only 2 hours of sleep and we had to rush to the airport to check in my  baggage and board our 6.45 am flight from Edinburgh to Amsterdam!

The security check at the airport was so strict! I had brought along nail clipper and a 20% remaining contacts solution in my hand carry bag and it did not pass through the check! The bag was pulled aside and we had to wait till the person to slowly entertain me and search my bag for the stuffs which sounded the detector. We almost ended up late for boarding and had to run to the gate before the flight takes off.

There's only four of us travelling to Amsterdam and Munich cuz CS will be travelling with his friend a few days before joining us. I've been looking forward to this Easter trip and I'm really excited about it!

Amsterdam is one hour before uk. We're on board of easyjet now, I won't have unlimited text anymore in europe so prob wait till we're in hostel at night then access the wifi =D

Easter trip Day 5,6 & 7 - Edinburgh. Scotland

These three days in edinburgh seem to fly pass really quickly. We travelled by bus from Glasgow to Edinburgh yesterday and Denzyl came to receive us from the Edinburgh bus station. It's so nice to be seeing Singaporean friends here in the UK

Once we got out onto the streets, the beautiful landscape of the city really amazed me. Princes street was the main shopping street with a good variety of outlets. And standing on the streets of the city, you can actually see the Calton hill, Edinburgh castle and a few other historical monuments.

We settled down at Justin's dorm and a while later Justin came back from campus. He had a few hours' free time while waiting for his lab reaction to run so he came back to meet us and showed us around the city centre.

He brought us up to the Calton hill where we could get a bird's eye view of the city. Edinburgh looks very dull and old but I love to admire such scenery which we'll never see in Singapore.

Afterwards, Justin had to go back to school to continue his research so CS and I went for lunch and explored around on our own. We decided to buy Subway for the first time. Can u believe it? And I actually like it!

We went to Edinburgh castle to take a look but did not enter cuz it was closing soon and we wouldn't have time to explore the place comletely. We walked down the long stretch of Royal Mile to Palace of Holyrood where the Queen stays in when she visit Scotland to catch a glimpse of it even though the opening hours to tourists are have already ended.

Headed back to Justin's dorm (our base camp) in the evening where Denz and Jus cooked us dinner and introduced us to their Korean friends Sean who will be travelling with us for the Easter trip.

Early morning of the 2nd day,we joined the day tour bus to the Scottish Highlands and visited places like the Glencoe, Fort William and Loch Ness. But I guess we weren't too lucky for the day cuz it was more of a wet weather and the strong winds made it so difficult to take nice photos. We were all freezing cold and the howling winds basicallyijust messed up my hair in all the ipictures.

Just like how Denz they all described, we ended up dozing off once we're on board the coach and ended up missing lots of stories which the tour guide told.

Hmm we met Hamish the cute highland cattle and that's about it lah. Nessie the Loch Ness monster remians only a myth to me. I personally feel that Taiwan's 阿里山 is more worth going than the Scottish highlands.

But I really admire the unique Scottish culture (of men wearing skirt ah) till now I've already seen a few grown-up man wearing tartans(scottish skirt) on the street with formal tops. As you walk down the royal mile street, you can actually see lots of shops selling the local produce such as cashmere or wollen scarves, tartan material entity.

We got to enjoy the Scottish local dishes such as Cullen skink, Haggis and Scottish Ale for dinner at night!

I still can't get use to the taste of Haggis although Justin really enjoys it!

Edinburgh Castle on the 3rd day!!!
It was such a super ultra windy, hair-uprooting day at the castle that Edwin Yeow's wig could have been blown away if he was there!

We explored Edinburgh castle which I thought was much better as it looked more real and historical, less commercialized than Warwick castle.

Later the night, which was also our last night in the UK before departing for the Europe tour with Justin ans Denzyl, we had Asian food for dinner. Kampong Ah Lee in Edinburgh recommended by the guys. I had laksa to satisfy my craving but of cuz it wasn't as good as what you'll get in Singapore. I'm so gonna stuff myself with 426 katong laksa when I return to Singapore!

We also did laundry at justin's place so as to wash all the clothes that I've worn during the first week of my trip.

Europe! We're here to conquer you!!!

Easter Trip Day 3 & 4 - Glasgow, Scotland

I finally got to watch Avatar! It's indeed super awesome!!!

And we watched Shutter Island yesterday too, here in the 18-storey cineworld in glasgow!

I know Avatar is such a last December 'thing' but I'm really so pleased because I haven watched movie for 2 months since I came to the UK, while I used to watch it so often back in SG.

It's not really that expensive for a student priced ticket. Student non-3D tix is about £5 while the 3D Avatar show costs me £7.10 including the 80p for purchase of the 3D glasses. Yeah we have to buy our own glasses but get to keep it for future use, so I treat it as a souvenir! Lol!

CS and I watced Shutter Island together last night and it was quite a mind twisting show.. Kinda messed up my neuro for the 2 hrs. Overall I liked the show but dun really fancy the ending which gives me the creeps. Haha. Highly recommend though. =D
CS watched avatar before back in sg so I didn't force him to watch it with me again. I went to the film on my own while he caught Alice in the Wonderland 3D. Good thing is that both films start and end around the similar timing so we could compliment each other's timing well.

DID I MENTION THAT ALL MOVIES ARE FREE SEATING?!?!!

So It's actually first cone first serve, choose ur own seats policy, without any preallocation. So cool right! I was surprised when I learnt about it from the ticketing staff, but happy about it too!

Anyway, these 2 days in Glasgow, we walked really ALOT and my legs are hurting quite abit. The main attractions in the city centre are all within walkable distance which gives us no motivation to take public transport like buses or subway. We visited the University of Glasgow, Kelvin grove arts gallery, transport museum and the shopping district Buchanan street, sauchiehall street etc. We found this vintge shop selling second hand goods dated as far back to the 50s! Super love!

Hmm.. I think Glasgow has lesser historical value as compared to York. It is morr of a commercial central, great for retail therapy though. =D

Easter trip Day 2 - North York Moors

Today's weather was fantastic, fabulous, awesome!!! No more wet umbrellas, drenched cameras or slippery roads!

This morning I woke up on time at 7.30am, surprisingly! It was a good night's rest with peaceful room mates, comfy bed and thick fluffy blanket.

We had breakfast in the hostel which was quite good. Free flow of toasts, croissants and cornflakes with milk, hot chocolate, tea etc. Afterwhich we embarked on the adventure to explore North York Moors! It's an area outside the central Yorkshire, a really lovely place. =D

Steam train virgin experience!
Transportation cost mainly accounted for our spendings today. £10.50 coach ride from central York to Pickering rail station and £15 for the steam train ride to Goathland.

The steam train ride was such a beautiful experience. The train that we took offered gala dining services so u can actually see those women dressed up in the classic British style sitting in the cabin just like in movies.

But for us, of cuz we could only take the standard train ride in the much less glamorous cabin! Haha! Nevertheless, the 45 min ride was so memorable. The buu-buu sound of the train's horn, the beautiful moors along the railway, cute little herds of sheep grazing greedily on the grass and the fresh breeze that brush against my face when I stuck my head out of the window... All these images and deeply etched in my mind!

We arrived at Goathland, the so called celebrity station, because it is where Harry potter filmed their first show, the scene of Hogsmeade train station!

The national park is seriously a place to chill and just stroll around to discover the beauty of nature! There's again many sheeps grazing around freely and the everywhere is surrounded by the green pasture and breathtakig scenery of the moors.

We decided to look for this waterfall that was stated on the map and we had to trek down this hillside with a really steep gradient. It was crazy!!!!!! I was on the verge of giving up but I'm
glad that I perservered because down in valley was actually another paradise. No words can describe the beauty of the scenery so I shall just upload the pics next time when I have the chance to. If u haven realized, I've been blogging from my iPhone cuz apparently I didn't bring along my laptop.

We were so tired after the 'moors expedition' that we KO-ed on the steam train on our way back to Pickering.

Had dinner at some random Chinese take away inn in pickering before taking the bus back to York. The lady is so nice to allow us to eat in her shop even though it's a take away inn, because we told her we had to rush to catch the scheduled bus.

Well well well, to sum it up, today is one of the most relaxing day of the trips that we've taken so far. It's always nice to slow down one's pace of life to enjoy the natural beauty of our world at times.

I'm so sure I'm gonna have aching tighs when I wake up tml after today's 'trekking exercise' LOL!

It's all worth it though... Good
Night world! ^^

Easter trip Day 1 - York

I've just had a nice warm shower here at Ace hotel in York, england. It was a frantic start for the Easter trip this morning!

We were supposed to depart from Warwick Uni at 8.48am but I overslpt and woke up at 8.30am! Was too tired from only 2 hrs of sleep last night due to the preparations. Only woke up when CS called me and I amazingly took a mere 10 mins to wash up, do last minute packing and then left hall to catch the bus to Coventry rail station.

The bus journey from the university to the rail station was horrendous! So many turns and corners. I felt terribly sick and giddy due to lack of sleep and the empty stomach. I thought I was gonna die man, felt so terrible. The train was quite stuffy too since it was fully occupied.

Fortunately, I was well-prepared. Had cooked fried rice the night before for breakfast but since I was in a hurry, I packed it in a lunch box and brought along to eat on the train. I managed to fall aslp and sleep indeed heals the body and brain. I eventually recovered from the sickness by the time we reached York.

It was quite cold in York as compared to coventry and was drizzling quite a bit so for the rest of the day we had to carry umbrella which was troublesome especially when u wanna hold the camera in ur hands and trigger happy everywhere.

The hostel is surprisingly beautiful and it's sign actually states Ace Hotel. We're staying in the 14 men mixed dorm ensuite with a bathroom so it added

York is a beautiful walled city with medieval buildings everywhere and a Viking history. We visited places like the clifford tower, river Ouse, Jorvik archaeological museum showcasing the Viking history of York, and one of the oldest gothic cathedral which dated back to the Roman period, York Minister.

The city centre is not that big but the roads are abit complicated since it's not on grid style. We've walked around the area over and over again while reading the map so by night time CS was quite an expert in navigating around. Haha.

I really love the historical feel of the city. It's like everywhere u go, u can see a few historical structures like wall, building or pillar which has been left behind since the medieval days.

One thing special is also tt u can see boards all around the streets showing tt it is the meeting place for various tours, especially the York ghost tours at night. I guess the city is just too old, too many ghosts. LOL!

We had dinner at macdonald's and joined one of the ghost tour to experience what isit like. So basically, the man who conducted the tour just brought us to walk around the city, telling haunted stories about all the historical sites which I don't really find it scary, and I kinda doubt whether they are true. I guess horror films had trained me well. Hahaha! Well, it's afterall a nice exprience but I'll prob not pay for such tours again.

Looking forward to sit the steam train tml! ^^

19/03/2010 - End of Term 2!

No more exams!!!

Finished my last paper today and I felt liberated!!! This also marks the end of term 2 and the beginning of my 6 wks Easter trip! I feel really excited but at the same time 烦恼 over the packing of luggage!

The first part of the trip we'll be travelling up to meet Denz and Jus in Edinburgh, afterwhich we'll be touring Europe together! Finally going to materialize the plans which we have started discussing since last yr! I still find it amazing to know I'm on exchange in the UK. But well, true as wad is being taught in HP806, psychology of crisis stress management, planning&going on a hol is actually one of the top few stressors to human! I am quite stress now because I just finished organic synthesis paper this morning and now I have to prepare myself for the trip. NEED TO TRAVEL LIGHT! So I'm gonna pack a week's clothes for the first 4 wks and we'll see how it goes...

Because it's the end of the term and everyone has their own plans for Easter, most travelling in separate routes, so we had gotten together last night for a potluck session and to catch up before we see each other again the next time in term 3!

We had the gathering at veronica's residence and I finally got to take a look at the layout of claycroft!!! It's single room with 2 rooms sharing one bathroom. So convenient right! Haha.

Each of us brought some food that we wanna clear from the fridge so tt they will not be left to rot in the fridge during Easter lol! But I haven really got any excess unwanted food so I bought nuggets from tesco to grill.

I'M SUCH A BIG PROCRASTINATOR!

I feel irritated by myself. Usually when I say I am going to study, I will at least utilize 30% of the time to work though the other 70% of the time usually end up diverting attention to other stuffs or daydream. I have short attention span. =(

But today! I totally didnt do any work!!! Should have gone London to meet JH & YL instead. Previously I thought I'd be busy studying for Monday's exam, but in the end have no mood to do so at all. I hope it's not my complacency acting up after yesterday's easy paper. It's almost the end of the day. I hate myself for having no sense of urgency and always cramming things into my head at the last minute. Hmmm.

I had a great dinner though! One of my exchange friends made Korean BBQ pork for dinner and it was so delicious and filling!!!
아주 맛있어요!

I accidentally deleted the other photo which I took with my friends. So dumb! Didn't really take much photos cuz our hands were all dirty from wrapping the meat with veg and kimchi. Haha.

I wanna learn how to make the bbq pork after easter! ^^

It's hard to believe that I'll be embarking on the easter trip exactly one week from now. NEXT SATURDAY! How am I going to pack my luggage for such a long trip.

伤脑筋啊!

12/3/2010

Today's exam was a breeze!!!

How many times have you heard me exclaim this from the time you first know me? Not often right? Haha! But I just had the easiest exam today and I'm feeling so high about it! Not because I just need to pass, but to be fair in judging, the paper is fairly easy and so much less demanding than the exam in Singapore.

Only half an hour into the exam and I have already scored more marks than I needed to pass. The thing is you know how we always rush like mad to finish a chemistry paper in NTU right. Over here, the number of question is really little and the marks allocated are so high! Hmm say for example I had this question today:Define DNA ligase. [10 marks]

In NTU,if u see such high weightage, you'll probably be writing out an essay on whatever detail that is related to DNA ligase. But for this exam, all you have to do is define is 2-3 sentence max.

Because I only need to pass, I have to admit that I didn't bother cracking out my head out trying to solve those questions without obvious answers. For the first time in my life, I actually have so much time in the exam that I started thinking about what to cook for dinner tonight! LOL.

I wonder how would exchange students feel about NTU CBC... they must have been depressed by the examination standard in Singapore.
BUT! I am still quite worried about the 1st paper Bio-inorg which I struggled through. My friends told me wont fail one lah.. but anything is possible right? =X

Yay! Some random pictures I took today. (I didnt realise that iphone can take such good resolution pics!)

On the way to Gibbet Hill... The route looks so deserted and for a moment I thought I have lost my way.

My not-enough-sleep + geeky specs face. cui. (the angle of this pic looks terrible because it's just so hard to 自拍 using iphone. Don't you think so?)

I haven't seen any horses on the road yet! Are there really people using horses as transportation!!?!? (oops my finger..)

Today's exam venue is at Gibbet Hill Medical School. Again, I haven't explored that part of the campus before so today was a good opportunity.

Many of my friends warned me that the gibbet hill campus is really far and requires lots of walking. I was kind of scared I'd get lost, so I asked my floormates for directions and specially left hall 50mins before the start of exam so as to make sure I won't be late. In the end....

I TOOK ONLY 15 MINUTES (at most) TO REACH THE VENUE!!!
LOL! Apparently, I am well-trained by NTU's North-South spine's walk and this is not far at all! Probably because the gibbet hill is JUST BEHIND rootes residence area and the hill steepness is nothing compared to NTU's route up to the SAO/ Cafe Al-fresco man.

Hmm, I really love the peace and serenity of the park/lake along the gibbet hill road. Should probably go explore again during spring/summer time. =D

Anyway, up till now 5 of my Singaporean friends have asked whether I know about the latest news of Jack Neo's scandal. LOL! YES I KNOW! In fact, I've been keeping track ever since the 1st news article of his scandal was published online. I'm so disappointed and disgusted, to think that I've always regarded him as a very good family man, respectable film maker, singapore's pride. PUI. Totally failed as a husband AND father. He's equivalent to Sg's Tiger wood's but just the disgusting version because he targets young girls! Such is the trend man...老牛吃嫩草。And the 草seem to be more and more 嫩,牛seem to be more and more 老。Haiz...

I WANT TO BUY A POLAROID CAMERA!
Really regret not getting the Fujifilm Instax before coming over. Or should I wait for POLAROID to reproduce their cams and films once again since there're news that they would do so in year 2010? Their films are really expensive though...

MY FIRST EXAM IN ENGLAND!

Yes, I just had Bio-inorganic Chem paper today and I'm glad my suffering has ended. Well, not entirely cuz there's still 3 more to go this term, but because that's the module which I dreaded most so I'm really happy that it's over and done with.

I think it kinda suck cuz I went in with the mentality that I just need to scrape through a pass. In the end I wasn't confident with alot of the questions so hopefully I can pass. If not? Haha. Don't think about it.

The examination venue was at Westwood Science Building. I managed to find my way there after asking for directions, cuz I've never explored that part of the campus before! Haha. I was quite surprised with the exam settings. It's so informal as compared to NTU's. We only got to know our seat number after we entered the exam hall.

You know how in NTU they always tell us NOT to write our names on the exam script right? But here they have this area at the top right hand corner of the front page where u write your name then there's some sticky part for you to fold that edge and seal your name. So funny, what's the purpose of that? Might as well just make do with our student ID number right? Shrugs.

The exam is a 1.5hr paper and the format is quite different from NTU. Almost all modules adopt the 3 question choose 2 type of format and although the number of parts is few, the weightage is high. And the thing is for each exam, it's actually a 3 hr paper separated in 2 section. And what I mean by section is different modules! So let's say a 3 hr exam may consist of organic chem and polymer chem paper. So u have to juggle 2 modules within that 3 hrs. And if you do not take either of the mod, you have to leave by the end of 1.5hours. So taxing for the students to switch between 2 different modules within one exam yeah? Although I have to admit NTU paper has more questions in an exam, if u get what I mean. Each has its pros and cons. Which do u prefer?

Hmm anyway, I had a great dinner tonight cuz I cooked tom yam soup!! and invited 2 of my exchange friends over for the meal. I had an enjoyable time catching up with them since I havent got the time to hang out with them recently. As usual, I just don't have the mood to study at all after an exam day, so ended up slacking all night I'm so sure I'm gonna regret it tomorrow since for being so ill-prepared for friday's paper.

I took this picture the other day. I was studying in the room and all of a sudden heard some constant ringing of this cute music. The sound goes on and off, on and off. I tried peering out of my window but couldnt identify the source. The 1st thing which came to my mind was the rubbish collector truck which is common in Japan and Taiwan. I actually thought some rubbish truck was going around to clear the chutes but when I look again..

WALLS ICE CREAM VAN!

Although the weather is still quite chilly, you can actually see quite alot of people queing to buy ice cream.

This is new. Haha.

Must be the changing of season to spring now, cuz it didnt come during winter, like duh....

08/03/2010

SERIOUSLY! WHAT THE FUCK!

I just went to TESCO yesterdat afternoon to stock up some essential groceries and lugged the heavy stuffs all the way back to hall. This time I didnt buy alot in case the food thief eye on my food again, so I only got stuffs that could last me at least 4-5 days.

BUT THE FOOD THIEF STRIKES AGAIN!

Just when I was about to cook fried rice for lunch today, I realised my whole packet of frankfurters are lost! WHOLE FULL NEW PACKET LEH! 10 hotdogs.. who the **** can eat 10 hotdogs overnight man?? It could have lasted me for 2 weeks ok!!!!

So I had to make do with bacon for replacement instead.

And something in my mind just unconsciously promted me to go double check my stuffs in the fridge again and viola! MY MUSHROOMS WERE GONE TOO!

ATROCIOUS! I was gonna invite my friends over for dinner tml night so I bought 2 packets of mushrooms and then one of them is now gone.

This is seriously wasting my time, my effort and my MONEY!

Some of my friends have already 习以为常 because they get food stolen too. BUT it isnt a right thing to do to begin with so why should we condone their behaviour (food theft). My neighbour told me that their food always got stolen in the past but after I arrived (this term), things were better for them because I became the prime target. -.-

The hall should seriously give a thought about installing CCTV.

我无能为力。

06/03/2010

Good morning world!

I haven woken up earlier than 11am for the past 2 weeks, other than that day when I have to meet Prof Leung.

I just can't help it man. Although exams are starting next Tuesday, damn fast I know. But just cant seem to study during the day. Even though I tried, I'll be dozing off every 5min or so. Is like uncontrollably. This reminds me of one incident 1 or 2 yrs back when I was talking to Mielin then suddenly I just fell asleep halfway through the face-to-face conversation! Not that she's boring me out. It's just that my brain automatically switches off to sleep mode. And did I mention before I can even find myself in a dream just by dozing off.

The other day I was struggling to study. Been sitting at the desk since around 2pm but was so sleepy and unproductive throughout the whole afternoon. Even when I'm studying with friends in library! But the amazing thing is that as soon as the sun sets and darkness sets in outside the window, I became super energetic! Was around 6-7pm. And then after dinner + shower, it's finally my prime time for studying @ approx 9pm.

No joke! I think I had been a nocturnal animal in my previous life.

If that's really so, I hope I was an owl.

Wise owl. ^^

I should slap myself for being the procrastinator. By the time I actually publish this post, it's already 2pm!!! Not that I spent 2 hours blogging, duh -.- It's because I was distracted by the cute apps icon on facebook for the Animal World and I actually went to play it! Damn. I should have known better this kinda cute games will be addicitive one leh..........Ok, less addictive than Roller Coaster Tycoon. RCT is uber cuteness man. Till today, I'm still trying to find the cd-rom for that game which I lost few years back. Sad.

Anyway, the system here is so dumb. I'm actually taking exams and attending year 2 modules at the same time. So obviously will clash with some of the dates right. But luckily got to know some nice girls from the course in 2nd year. One of them happened to be a Singaporean!! Apparently she knew Minyen and Ximin from last term when they were there for exchange too. Hehe. I feel that I'm undergoing the same experience as those two girls at the same place but at different time. Feels like the character in the movie "The Lake House". XM & MY's pigeon holes are still there with their marked worksheets in them! Haha I'll prob bring it back for them.

Ok, die. Gonna start work soon or I'm in deep shiat.

The weather is so nice today! Not too sunny or windy. Just clear blue skies with fluffy white clouds.

I feel like doing a picnic. =D

04/03/2010

Weather: Sunny + Windy
Mood: Quite awake

IT'S MARCH ALREADY???

*shrieks shockingly like as if I haven't been looking at the calender -.-*

Yes time passes really quickly. Before I realise I'd have finished the exams, gone on the easter trip, completed the research project and be back in Singapore! Home sweet home. Then I'll start missing UK, miss all the weekend trips in this big big world (compared to teeny weeny SG), miss my new-found friends, miss life in Warwick, miss being independent, miss the vast freedom etc.

Last night was kind of like the first time I miss my friends back in SG so much. Even though I have made many friends here in england, the feeling is just different from being with the friends you already know for a long time.

I have to admit that people are generally more friendly and loving here in the UK. The international students tend to be more open-minded and accepting, more generous with their hugs and praises. However, I just miss the feeling of being around my good old friends, where I am absolutely comfortable just being myself knowing we share the same culture and experiences.

Don't get me wrong now. I have never ever harbour a slight regret on coming for this exchange and I really need to thank my family for funding me financially, giving me the opportunity for this wonderful once-in-a-lifetime experience. It's really an eye-opener and I've learnt many things that I never knew or bothered about before. I've definitely grown from it.

I was feeling so nostalgic last night and it suddenly dawned upon me that I have held back my feelings too much in the past, being too nonchalant about many things which I could have expressed/ observed. Anyway, I just like to do a few shoutouts here:

I miss you! 8OfUs, Jas&Ade, JC clique, CBC clique! ^^

Wonder how many of u actually read my blog but I hope we have many more beautiful times to spend with each other after I am back in Sg.

Feeling bothered about the fact that I'll be in Year 4 Sem 1 by the time I return to Sg and there's only 1 semester left to spend with my dear CBC peeps. Might not even see some of them since they'll be doing IA/FYP in Sem 1. Gosh, how time flies. I'm aging. =(

Anyway, was just chatting with WJ on msn just now and he told me about the El Nino weather effect which hits Singapore as well as other SEA countries & Western Australia. I'm really glad to be enjoying the cool weather here in UK but at the same time empathize my loved ones back at home. Haix. What's the world coming to. I hope I wont have to witness doomsday in my lifetime, or at least this life.

Everyone in Sg, please drink more water and take Vitamin C (it helps!) to prevent falling sick during this hot weather period.....

Talking about weather, I think the season is officially changing to Sping. My hopes for more snow are now dashed. It was so sunny when I went for lessons today and the temperature was alright. I could simply pullover a think hoodie with jeans and pumps. But as usual, strong wind is the killer.

Most of the girls here, whether local or not, dress up really very nicely for school even during winter. So I'm quite sure I'll be seeing more and more fashionistas when Spring and Summer sets in. Haiz. The fashion scene in Sg might take years before it can become decent. But can't really blame Sgporeans can we? The weather is just so warm most people would simply opt for basics and the classic 背心短裤。I hate to see people wearing FBT to shopping malls though. So unsightly!

After being here for 2 months, I've observed many interesting details about the different way of life here as compared to sg, be it in general or specific to University life. It's just so hard for me to recall at times when I finally feel like blogging. STM. Lol.

Oh, I don't know if you people share the same sentiments but Sg can't live without a handphone? When you walk around NTU, you tend to see everyone holding their phones or being busy on it etc. Here, I dont really see that much of the trend. Same goes for listening music on MP3 too! If you walk down the aisle on the Level 5 of the library in NTU. Who doesnt have his earphones stuck in his ears? (of cuz not everyone) I'm just portraying the fact that people here doesnt seem to be as heavily dependent on their IT gadgets, at least from what I observed.

Well........ I've blabbered quite a mouthful today. Shall really start doing work SOON, before it's dinner time again! Eat eat eat.......................... = FAT.

Loves from UK~

01/03/2010 - Prof Leung's visit!

Weather: Super sunny, feeling the warmth admist the cold.
Mood: Tired, not looking forward to pass the day.

I slept at 5am last night(because I was online shopping! where did my self-discipline go?) but woke up at 9am this morning to receive Prof Leung at 10am.

Yes! Prof Leung from NTU CBC. He had come to uk for some academic purpose I guess and on the way visited us. He had been to Edinburgh (met up with Denz and Juz), York and Warwick was the last stop.

I was supposed to meet him at the Scarman House at 10am, but being new to that area of the campus, I stupidly waited for him at WBS on Scarman Road. Lack of sleep, couldnt think clearly. I realised something was amissed at around 10.10am because the Prof couldnt have been late without texting me or something. So I found out that Scarman House was actually acorss the road and I literally chionged over. Scarman House is beautiful. Apparently it's like a hotel/resort kind of building to accomodate visitors. Maybe only VIP, not sure.

Prof Leung is such a nice person! Nicer than I expected. He has taught us for one module last semester, but I didnt have a chance to interact with him in person till today. He wasn't upset for my late arrival at all and had been so chatty from the beginning of the meeting till the end, that I didn't feel a tinge of awkwardness at all!

He bought me breakfast (a tradition of CBC he said, LOL) at the Cafe Library and sat down to chat. He was very concerned about how I was settling down and adapting to life here, whether I had any complaints or problems that I needed him to know. But I could gladly tell him I'm doing fine over here and I'm loving this exchange. Haha. We chatted about my easter trip plans and he told me about his backpacking experience when he was younger. So 和蔼可亲!

Anyway, I'm so pissed that I've food missing from my fridge yet again! 1 pak choi and 1 broccoli. Seriously think it's that cheapo ah tiong who took it. I dont see the brits having these kinda veg as often. -.-

I'll poison my food tonight.

I'm just kidding. Shall reconsider tt again only if I can get hold of the poison in the 1st place.
